The Outcomes of Navicular Fracture Surgery

Abstract

This presentation discusses the surgical treatment of traumatic fractures of the tarsal navicular bone and summarizes the results of this treatment in the trauma surgery department of a Level I Trauma Center. The author discusses the anatomy, mechanism of injury, indications for surgery, approaches and implants used for osteosynthesis of fractures of this bone. He then presents a retrospective analysis of the surgical treatment of these fractures in their department. The patient cohort was evaluated for medical history, associated injuries, as well as X-ray examination, completion of the AOFAS Midfoot Score questionnaire, and determination of pain level by VAS. Based on these data, the reasons for good and poor outcomes are discussed.
