Retrolisthesis: Post-operative complication of discectomy in long term follow up
Abstract
The study presents a case report of a 47-year-old male who experienced back pain for 7 months, leading to disc herniation at the L4-L5, L5-S1 levels. Following an open discectomy, the patient gradually recovered. However, after five years of post-operation, he developed mild back pain and numbness in the right foot's L5-S1 sensory area, later diagnosed with retrolisthesis through MRI analysis. This case report highlights the significance of post-operative complications in discectomy cases, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring and intervention in such scenarios. The study contributes valuable insights into the management of retrolisthesis as a rare complication of lumbar disc surgery, shedding light on the challenges and outcomes associated with surgical interventions in complex spinal conditions.
Biography
Dr. Aung Kyi Win, a Clinical Professor with a professional journey spanning over four decades, he began as a House Surgeon at Mandalay General Hospital in 1980. Dr. Aung's expertise evolved as he transitioned through various roles, including Assistant Surgeon at Shan State in 1996, and Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon in different hospitals across Myanmar. Noteworthy publications include articles on fracture management and case reports on orthopedic conditions like Charcot Knee Joint and Avascular Necrosis of the Hip. In 2021, he joined the Clinical Faculty at the Orthopedic Department of Melaka University College Malaysia (MUCM) in Malaysia, where he currently serves as a Clinical Professor.
