Title: To assess the frequency of entrapment neuropathy of carpal tunnel in gravid women

Abstract

Carpal tunnel entrapment neuropathy is a rising issue that less commonly enlighten by researchers. A observational study was conducted and data were gathered from patients coming to the gynecological department of different hospitals in Hyderabad, Pakistan. Total 164 pregnant women of average age of up to 26.15±5.48 were included and completed the questionnaire whereas those who were at high risks of pregnancies (i.e gestational diabetes and other pathologies excluded from the survey. Non probability purposeful sampling technique and Standardized Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire (BCTQ) was used to collect data. SPSS version 21 was used for data analysis and calculated the frequency of the entrapment neuropathy in carpal tunnel among gravid women in all three trimesters.Out of 164 patients 55 (33.5%) those enrolled in study belong to age group 18-22 years and 90 (54.9%) were in the third trimester of pregnancy. The mean score was 1.95±0.69. Only 10.4% women were not reported Carpal tunnel syndrome otherwise majority 147 out of 164 have had carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).It was noted that, the frequency of entrapment neuropathy in carpal tunnel among gravid women especially who were in the third trimester were high. This demonstrates the need to make awareness programs by recommending precautionary measures that can be taken timely to prevent it in the first place.

She is currently working as a Principal and Assistant Professor at the Moomal Institute of Physiotherapy and Allied Health Sciences in Hyderabad, Pakistan. In addition to her academic and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Annosha,PT is also In charge of the MIPAHS examination department, chairperson of institutional academic council, and is a member of institutional disciplinary and curriculum committees. She has organized numerous events and project competitions at MIPAHS and has participated in faculty development workshops and student workshops as a speaker as well. She participated as a delegate and oral or virtual presenter in the international conference. Dr. Annosha is a highly respected member of the physiotherapy community. She is also a strong advocate for evidence-based practice and is committed to promoting the highest standards of patient care.
