Title : Surgical treatment of osteochondritis dissecans of the knee

Abstract

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is the destruction of subchondral bone with accompanying damage to overlying cartilage. OCD lesions typically present with pain, swelling following activity, and catching or locking. Although lesions may be asymptomatic and can be treated nonoperatively, in the case of progressive and unremitting symptoms, operative management should be pursued. The goal of surgical treatment is to restore the joint surface, improve blood supply to the lesion, and provide fixation. Therefore, current treatment options and their efficacy will be discussed.
